Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What styles do you teach?

I am an opera/ classical specialist but I teach all musical genres. I believe that a good solid technique can be transferred to any style. It will enable you to greatly improve your vocal ability and range, and also to sing safely without damaging your voice. You only have the one!

Where are you located?

I teach from a home teaching space located on Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9HD, where I have a fully equipped music room. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons or drop off pupils. Click on the map below to bring up my location on Google Maps. My full teaching address will be provided upon your first lesson booking.

What ages do you teach?

I teach all ages with current students ranging from 7 to 76! You are never too old to try something new.

Will singing lessons help improve my confidence?

Absolutely! I work very hard on performance techniques as well as vocal technique. Everything I teach you, posture, breathing, diction and everything else that goes into a great performance will have a huge knock-on effect in your daily life.

When do you teach?

I am flexible and happy to fit lessons around people’s busy lives. I generally teach every day of the week, mainly evenings during the weekdays but not restricted to this.

Do you teach ABRSM grades?

Yes! I have prepared many students for the ABRSM singing grades, selecting repertoire suited to each individual and preparing for the sight-reading and aural tests.

Are lessons available in Welsh?

Yes! I am fluent first language Welsh speaker. Lessons are available in English or Welsh.  I have helped prepare many of my Welsh language pupils to prepare for school, Urdd and local Eisteddfod competitions.

How long should my lesson be?

Most pupils have an hour's lesson. However, for younger children, I suggest that a half an hour lesson is more suitable. Equally, if you'd prefer to begin with a half an hour lesson to see how it goes, we can always increase the lesson to an hour once you feel more comfortable and/ or if you feel an hour would be more beneficial.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

Please note that Singing Lessons Cardiff runs a 48 hours cancellation policy for lessons booked with us. If lessons are cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled lesson time they will be charged the full price - no exceptions.

Beginners to Advanced

I offer my students the chance to take graded exams, as they can be a great way to mark your progress and they also give a real sense of achievement, but undertaking grades is certainly not compulsory. Indeed, many of my students simply learn to sing for their own enjoyment. The main focus of the lessons is to learn and enjoy what you do. Singing is a great way to relax and have fun for all ages!

So why not have a go! Get in touch today to arrange your first lesson, you never know what talent you may be hiding.
